Language study trip with a host family

A language study trip with a host family offers you the unique opportunity to learn German not only in the classroom, but also in everyday life. You live directly with a German family, experience real family life and are involved in the daily use of the language. This allows you to improve your listening comprehension, vocabulary and pronunciation in a natural way.

Staying with a host family makes your language study trip particularly authentic. In addition to learning German, you will familiarise yourself first-hand with German traditions, eating habits and cultural peculiarities. Whether at breakfast together, on excursions or in everyday conversations - you will be fully immersed in the German language.

A language study trip with a host family is ideal for anyone who wants to combine intensive learning with personal support. It offers security, a familiar environment and plenty of opportunities to socialise - all while you noticeably improve your German.

Host families in Heidelberg - what you should bear in mind:

Become a host family - your chance to welcome international guests

Becoming a host family in Heidelberg is an exciting opportunity to combine cultures and earn some extra money at the same time. Anyone who can offer an open, warm and hospitable environment is ideally suited. In this way, you can actively promote international exchange and offer language students a temporary home.

Guest gift - small gifts show appreciation

A gift for the host family is a nice gesture to show gratitude. Creativity and personality are required here. Practical or symbolic gifts, such as small handmade items or regional specialities, are particularly well received. This makes the host family feel appreciated and the stay will be remembered by both parties.

General information about accommodation with the host family

What different accommodation options do I have?

We offer many different accommodation options: the school's own halls of residence and
Flats, hotels or host families. Please note that location, size and furnishings may vary.
of the halls of residence vary depending on the category.

Arrival and departure

Journey
You will receive an e-mail from us one to two weeks before your arrival with all the details to
Check in, to your accommodation and to hand over the keys. Check-in takes place on Sundays between
10:00 and 22:00. Exceptions to this rule must be agreed with the accommodation team.
be agreed.
Departure
Please make an appointment to move out with the accommodation department (at the latest on
Thursday before your last day). Check-out is on Saturdays before 12:00 noon. The key handover
will be made directly with our employee after checking your room.

My arrival is delayed. What do I have to do?

If your arrival is delayed due to force majeure, you must expect that we may no longer be able to guarantee your booked room category or your hall of residence. In this case, we reserve the right to accommodate you in another hall of residence and/or another category of hall of residence.
In this case, the price difference for a lower dormitory category or the dormitory guarantee amount will be refunded in full, but there will be no surcharge for any necessary upgrading! An exception to this rule is only possible if the rent for the booked room is paid from the time of the originally planned move-in.

The licence fee

Public service broadcasting in Germany is paid for by the monthly licence fee paid by every household, regardless of whether they have a television connection. In return, you have a choice of 20 TV channels, more than 60 radio stations and a whole host of digital programmes. Each AOL dormitory room is a separate household and is therefore subject to contributions. The monthly fee is 18,36 €. We have provided a practical FAQ about the licence fee for you to download.

Is there free W-Lan?

All our halls of residence have free internet access. Please note that this is not a high-speed internet connection and that we accept no liability for technical faults, errors or failures. During the high season we rent additional rooms and flats. Information about their internet facilities is available on request.

What is available in the rooms

Bed linen is provided by us. Please bring your own towels.

Do I have to bring my own cookware?

Cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery can be rented on request and subject to availability for a deposit of 40 € and a service charge of 50 €. (The deposit will be refunded when the complete and cleaned set is returned).

Where can I do my laundry?

Washing machines and tumble dryers are available in our halls of residence. We accept no liability for the use of the machines. During the high season we rent additional rooms and flats. Information on their equipment with washing machines and tumble dryers is available on request.

Is there a cleaning service?

You are responsible for the cleanliness of your room, bathroom and kitchen. The Academy of Languages cleaning service cleans the communal areas twice a week.

What do I have to do if I want to extend my tenancy agreement?

Free rental extensions must be requested from the Accommodation Department four weeks before the end of the rental period. For extension requests of less than 14 days to the end of the contract, we charge a processing fee of 50 €, but we do not guarantee the extension of a specific room as availability depends on the number of bookings. We do not reserve rooms until a binding booking has been made.

How do I cancel my tenancy agreement?

After the start of the rental period, the accommodation can be cancelled subject to a notice period of six full weeks and the payment of a cancellation fee of 150 €.

Can I change my accommodation

Changes of accommodation from host family to hall of residence or from hall of residence to host family are possible subject to a cancellation period of two weeks after availability.

How do I get my deposit back?

You will receive a move-out form after the room check. Please send a scan of the form with your bank details to rooms.hd@fuu.de so that we can transfer the deposit to you. Please note that it can take up to 20 working days for the money to reach your account. All bank charges for this transfer must be paid by the customer and will be deducted from the deposit.

How do I get from the airport to my accommodation

We organise transfers via partner companies from all nearby airports directly to the meeting point for the key handover or to any other desired address in Heidelberg. We are happy to organise transfers within Heidelberg, for example from the main railway station to the hall of residence, for an additional charge. Transfers from the weekend meeting point to the hall of residence are free of charge and are organised by our weekend helpers.

I am travelling by car. Where can I park?

Some of our halls of residence offer chargeable but unsupervised parking spaces for weekly hire: Simply contact us. There is also the possibility of free parking on the roadside. Please observe the traffic and information signs on site to avoid penalties. The school accepts no liability whatsoever.
